Eco-Energy: Anaerobic digestion, Algae, and Energy Prosperity

Scott and Ryan

In 2009, the BEST lab was a finalist in the People, Prosperity and the Planet (P3) Student Design Competition for Sustainability sponsered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The project was titled Eco-Energy Demonstration Model: Anaerobic Digestion, Algae and Energy Prosperity and was developed to integrate anaerobic digestion, algal cultivation, and solar energy into a compact, integrated, sustainable system. As a finalist, the BEST lab traveled to Washington D.C. to present their project on the National Mall at the 2010 National Sustainable Design Expo, a three-day expo during which projects were judged and demonstrated to families and individuals from around the country and the world. The Eco-Energy was awarded honorable mention award at the expo.
