He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in environmental science. A passion for sustainability brought him to study the anaerobic digestion of food waste. He conducted an undergraduate thesis studying food waste and an on-campus dining hall and its potential for biogas production. His paper won the Student Research for Campus Sustainability Reward in 2008 from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education.
